In the past, to attain resolutions of 4MP or higher required using IP cameras, but recent advents in security camera technology have made it possible to send 4MP and 4K video over good quality RG59U coax wire.

If you are unfamiliar with HDCVI cameras, they can send HD video over RG59 siamese cable, i.e. that's the type taken from a spool of wire. They are great for use in upgrading existing systems, or in new systems where the fussy networking required for IP cameras is too difficult. This surveillance video recorder is a 4K Pentabrid DVR (aka XVR) that supports all the common security camera signal types: IP cameras, HDCVI cameras, and standard analog security cameras. It has one SATA port for one hard drive up to 10TB, and four add-on microphone inputs. Using the HDCVI technology, it can capture audio from our HDCVI security cameras with built-in mic (mentioned above) and the DVR can capture audio from the camera over the video coax cable without the need for an extra cable.
